We have babies!!

Both my red does have kindled and I am still waiting on the tort. Pepper, my F1 red, had a large litter of 6 kits and Scarlet gave birth to a litter of 6(one peanut). Peppers litter contains three solid reds, a broken red, a broken tort and a solid tort. I am unsure as to the colors of Scarlets litter yet but it looks like a mixture of reds and torts, all solid. Both litters are out of my Tort buck Toby and should be very typy. I can't wait to see how they turn out. Update: Both litters are coming along well, suprisingly at this stage the F2s are looking more holland than the F3s. Both are adorable at this age and I can't wait to see how they turn out. The cream and broken cream out of Peppers litter will both be for sale when they wean. The tort doe only kindled one kit and it was stillborn, I believe it was to big for her. She will be rebred after she recovers.
Scarlets litter: F3, 2 lighter reds, 1 red, 2 smutty or tort reds.
Pepper's litter: F2, 2 solid reds, 1 booted red, 1 broken red, 1 solid cream and 1 broken cream.

More News

The Billings Fair show went pretty well. The tort buck I recently purchased did very well. He almost won in the solid senior bucks in very stiff competition (the judge wanted to do a three way tie). My blue otter Caspian made me very proud too. He was the best broken holland and almost took best in breed. At the show I sold all three of the new F1 reds to good pet homes. My thrianta doe is still for sale as is Dalilah (pictured in an older post). Speaking of reds, I palpated my does today and looks like both my reds are pregnant (Yay!). My upcoming litters are as follows...
  • Caspian(blue otter) x Snickers(black tort) - due 9/1 expecting otters and torts (broken and solid)
  • Toby(black tort) x Pepper(Red) - due 8/30 expecting mostly reds but maybe torts or otters
  • Toby(black tort) x Scarlet(Red) - due 9/1 expecting typy oranges and reds
New Buck Toby. Not the best picture (it was hot and he did not feel like posing!)

News

The great falls show went ok. We didn't have any wins; there were lots of really nice hollands. As usual Caspian, my herd buck, went into a molt right before the show. At the show I sold the large white rabbit and Rob's Honey (pictured in for sale post). At the show I also purchased a very nice tort buck. I plan to use him in my red project and have already bred him to Scarlet (F2 red doe pictured below). When my F1 red is old enough she will be bred to him too. Right now I have no new litters; niether of my new does kindled and both have been rebred. All of my new F1 kits will be for sale along with their mother once weaned. Upcoming litters are as follows
  • Scarlet x Tort buck- expecting some really typy reds
  • Snickers (tort doe) x Caspian- expecting nice black otters, torts and tort otters in both broken and solid.

Red Project: Update

The red project is coming along nicely. On July first my Thrianta doe kindled a litter out of Spring fevers Apollo. It contains three healthy reds, two broken and one solid. Rob's Pepper from my first F1 litter is also maturing nicely. She should be ready to breed by the time this next litter is weaned. The new reds are very cute and just starting to open their eyes. I really wanted a nice solid red out of this litter but it seems so far that the most holland like kit is the broken one with the most white (just like the last litter). But I'll keep my fingers crossed and maybe the solid red will turn out nice. Here are some pics of my F1 babies and Pepper. Also coming soon is a F3 litter out of Apollo and Scarlet(a new red doe).

Hey there Delilah...

Introducing Rob's Delilah. She is a blue tort doe out of Spring Fever's Apollo and Hughes' Hazel. She is still a junior and will be my sisters first show rabbit. She wasn't really the pick of the litter, (it was a beautiful chocolate tort, who tragicly passed away) but I think she will make a really nice brood doe at the worst. She is smack dab in the middle of the teenage uglys right now and I really hope her head will mature out nice. If she takes after either one of her parents she should be a great rabbit.

New rabbits

Well, I have recently puchased two new rabbits that I think will really help my breeding program. The first is a solid Tort doe and the second is a beautiful red. The tort has a great body and will be bred to my broken blue otter buck who has a great head. I'm hopeing for some pretty black otters out of this crossing. I'm not quite sure who I'm going to breed the red doe to but I'm thinking Spring Fever's Apollo, my rew buck. Hopefully this litter will give me a large percentage of reds(some of which might be great show rabbits).
